As I attended some seminars on the ancient Latin Mass, and the spirituality of the people who should promote it. I came to understand this principle.
This was what Pope Benedict wanted in Summorum Pontificum... He wanted to make sure the liturgy as given by the centuries and the one by the Council is preserved all in all.
In the passing of things, some came to hate Summorum Pontificum, called its proponents as cynical, in favor of some new inculturated "Rite", a Rite in which the essence of mission is lost, the Christianization of the culture being preserved. But what they failed to see is that the document provided a great light to the application of the Council's goals: the Church as a beacon of truth throughout the world.
There are some practices in the Tridentine Mass that one would like to imitate in a Novus Ordo Mass, like "ad orientem" or the addition of candles, or that of the whole Mass in Latin, etc. These were not banned, but encouraged even in the document 'Sacrosanctum Concilium" which interpreted properly would make great sense, contrary to Ultra-Traditionalist ideas.
In the introducing of the New Roman Missal on the Philippines in 2012, maybe these ideas will be brought to great sense, although abuses and mishaps are still there. I come to see many Churches bringing back the glorious architecture, contrary to "modern" art, which as a theological "setback" to the glory and splendor a Church building must have.
Also, is the "Pastoral" question.. as one Priest commented: "sometimes Pastoral reasons are not for the people, but only the will and artsy of the Pastor"... In that, this principle wishes that WHAT HAS BEEN PASSED DOWN, ALTHOUGH SLIGHTLY CHANGED IS NEVER ABROGATED... primarily that one Pastor must listen to the faithful, even for a celebration of both Forms of the same Roman Rite. On the other side, the faithful must encourage their Pastor to do these not by force, but by love and devotion, which shows him the fruits of the Eucharist visible in them...
Another is that most of the Traditionalists active today are the youth. If the Church claims to be on their side as ever-vibrant yet ancient, it must implement this so that youth, in seeing the glory of the Church, are inspired to be messengers of the Word and receivers of the Bread of Life.
Finally, all the principles will be just labeled as vanity if we do not have further CATECHESIS, because, experience-wise, I have even my parents who does not consent that I really support the local Latin Mass movement in my city. There is a need of a new understanding of what the Liturgy always is and what it should be.. We must not put out or goodie-goodies, but that of the reality of the Gospel.. it may be partly painful, but in the long run will set us free
