In the past news, Bishop Luis Antonio Tagle, DD of the Diocese of Imus was appointed by the Supreme Pontiff to be the next Archbishop of Manila, the primatial see of the Philippines. He is expected to take his canonical seat in the Archdiocese of Manila on December 12 (Our Lady of Guadalupe). This is primarily expected since he is a good theologian and a nice good-looking face for a Bishop!
I know Bishop Tagle to be a good apologist, theologian and commentarist. In fact, I watch his show every Sunday (The Word Exposed) before I set out for serving Mass.
But one thing I am concerned, is that he graduated from Bologna's school of theology, reputed to be one of the most liberal in the Catholic Church (but NOT Kung-like). To see things in a negative side of view, this was not considered in the "ponenza" or a document sent to choosing members and the Pope about the person that the local Church, as per Canon Law, chooses to become its Shepherd.
This might be only that the Archbishop-Elect was only chosen because of his good place in the Roman Curia or his "factor" among the people of God who chose him. And this time, the TLM might be further "removed" from the liturgical eyes of the Manileno...
In a positive side, I think that will not affect the Church of Manila. Further, it might turn later that Manila can boast of having one of the greatest theological formation in the Asia-Pacific region. It might be that the Church of Manila can be a good place for us to learn more about the Faith in praxis to daily life (that's what Archbishop-Elect is good at!) and the manners of simplifying theology for the common Catholic.
That depends if the Archbishop-elect has the proper will to implement the will of the Supreme Pontiff or go "mumbo-jumbo" on why he has not to follow the directives. Our talk is about Obedience. That is the essence of the Christian Life.
The issues are for us to decide: Where is Manila going to? Will Manila become a good Catholic place? Stay on watch, guys!
